Warhammer Fantasy Changes on the Horizon/from warseer and bolls

So I am sure that many people will probably shoot holes through this and I was hesitant to post at all. With all the news surrounding Games Workshop over the last couple of weeks I think that it lines up fairly well. I was able to grab lunch with an old friend about a month ago who works for GW (not a local store croney). We talked everything GW and of course my drug of choice Warhammer Fantasy. He said that over the next coupel of months there would be drastic changes to the way GW does business...this was just in general. He didn't give me too many specifics, but now that the White Dwarf changes have hit the street openly and the news of a revamped website with FW product offerings and all it lines up. Once again he didnt come out and say that GW was going to be taking a hit with the earnings, but he stated that many of the changes had to do with new strategies to increase revenue and such. He has been traveling non-stop for new training and meetings, so it was easy to see something was coming down the pipe.

So on to my main point. I have always been a fantasy fanatic...game of choice hands down. He stated that there would be a new release which would change the way fantasy is currently played. Currently, the idea is to have huge blocks of infantry and high priced special characters and beasts which makes for higher costs to players and conceptually more revenue for GW. However this did not work fo rone reason or another. So it was obvious some changes were needed. The new approach will aim at bringing more people back into the game by making it smaller and more affordable. The new rule set would focus on making warhammer more of a small block and skirmish based game with fewer miniatures needed. The new box set would have less miniatures, but would basically set people up to get in the game and playing at a much reduced cost.

So he didnt give me the finer deatails that I would have liked, but he did say this would happen this summer for sure...not next year. He basically said that GW is being forced to make some changes due to some cash flow issues...which has become evident since we had lunch several weeks ago. It seems like he was pretty spot on so far with his vague statements...haha...take it as you will. But I have faith in this for many reasons. It seems with everything going on that it would line up well and make sense. GW needs a way to bring more people back intothe game while also doing soemthing to help bring fanatsy back up to strength.

So has anybody else heard anything similar or am I out here on a limb.

No worries και να γινουν ολες αυτες οι μαλακιες, δε γουσταρεις μενεις στην 8η εκδοση που ειναι και ψιλο οκ. Η' αν βγαλουν αξιοπρεπεις κανονες τους υιοθετεις στον 8η εκδοση στρατο σου. Δε νομιζω να τα ακυρωσουν ολα, πιο πολυ θα ειναι ενα σετ κανονων που θα σου επιτρεπει να παιξεις οπως θες εσυ (skirmish, mass battle, παλια army rosters, νέα Sigmar Marines rosters etc)
Eικασια δικια μου το παραπανω απο αυτα που διαβασα και ακολουθουν τη λογικη, μια αρετη που δεν εχει καμμια σχεση με τη GW!

νομιζω οτι θα συμφωνησω σε ολα ομως.

Πολύ δραστικές μου ακούγονται αυτές οι αλλαγές, και ειλικρινά δεν καταλαβαίνω γιατί να τα πετάξει όλα απο το παράθυρο, ή έστω να κάνει ριζικές αλλαγές, με ένα reboot για το οποίο απότι καταλαβαίνω κανείς δεν ενδιαφέρεται και αρκετοί δεν θέλουν. Το πρόβλημα δεν ήταν ποτέ για εμένα έλλειψη content ή ότι είχαμε ενα game setting και game system που δεν τράβαγε, αλλά είναι οι λάθος αποφάσεις που έπαιρνε κατα καιρούς, οι αποτυχημένες κινήσεις όσο αφορά ορισμένα releases, η ελλιπής και μερικές φορές ανήπαρκτη οργάνωση σε όλους τους τομείς. Αυτά όμως έχουν σχέση με διοίκηση και marketing και όχι με το game ώστε να είναι απαραίτητο κάτι σαν αυτό που τα rumors λένε πως ετοιμάζει.

Για να επανέλθω στο θέμα διότι ξέφυγα σχετικά, άμα θέλει προφανώς η GW να αλλάξει ριζικά τον τρόπο λειτουργίας ενός προϊόντος/setting 10ετίας+ πρέπει να έχει κάτι πάρα πάρα πάρα πολύ καλό (το οποίο και εύχομαι) κατα νού έναντι του υπάρχον αλλιώς, εκτός απο το να κάνει μία τρύπα στο νερό, θα γίνει και ο αγαπημένος ευεργέτης των ανταγωνιστών της, το οποίο και δεν εύχομαι με τίποτα.

Βέβαια για να πώ του στραβού το δίκιο αρκετά που διάβασα μου άρεσαν σαν ιδέες γι'αυτό και ανυπομονώ να μάθω περισσότερα και φυσικά ελπίζω να τα καταφέρουν και το game να γίνει ακόμα καλήτερο απο τώρα.

Θα ήθελα όπως είναι φυσικό να περιμένω μέχρι να φτάσουμε 1-2 μήνες πριν το release οπότε και θα ήμαστε ~80% σίγουροι σχεδόν για οτιδήποτε ακούγεται.

Some time back in late 2010/early 2011 I was told WFB was due for a huge shakeup, it was felt that it had become almost too generic fantasy and not "warhammer" enough, and YES there was talk about cancelling it as a range altogether! However as there was still the possibility of making £ back of the plastic kits it was decided a "reboot" was for the best. Harry and I both discussed this both privately AND openly on these forums, discussing moving the timeline forward and killing off lots of characters, it looks like this is coming to pass, so here's what else I recall .....

Unpopular armies (brets I'm looking at you) would not be directly supported anymore, more likely folded into a new "good guys" type army book, so you could theoretically still run a bret army, but don't expect any new models for a long while. I seem to recall there would be 3 books, but this may actually turn out to be the end time books.

The "vision" for WFB was still to be a massed battle game, do you honestly think GW wants you to buy 1 box of troop x, y or z for a skirmish game, when they can sell 5 boxes for just 1 unit? My understanding was that WFB would change, but not to a skirmish game, it would become more "open" in so much as army composition would basically let you use your collection of WFB minis for your games. However I did hear something about round bases that fitted into square bases some time after, so take from that what you will.

I was talking to some Guys working for GW. Wile they know as much as we do for the upcoming 9th Edition i think its interesting what they have to say about the Rumors.

They think it will have 3 Books again (Like the new 40k Edition. But the difference is .. they have one Ruleset for Skirmish games and one "normal" ruleset. Thats why the round bases.
They also think that the GW Rule "You can play all Minis on the Base it baught them with even if the base shape changed over the years." will not change.
No Armies will be removed from the game.
End Times will be part of the Rules.
All in all the 9th Edition will offer more Options to the players. But you will not be forced to Play Fantasy Space marines on round bases in a skirmish game after you sold all your worthless, removed armies on ebay... because that would be simply stupid
